Mucho Mas Vino Tinto Wine

Despite being such a large operation, Mucho Mas remain a family-owned winery located near the Spanish capital. This is their easy-drinking red blend, and as stupid as it might sound, it really is red. Very red. The fruits stray from very ripe to jammy, with bright juices from plums, figs, and berries. Vanilla and a crack of warm pepper fill things out in this loveable glugger.

Barossa Ink Shiraz

This fresh and fruit forward Shiraz pulls grapes from all over the Barossa region to punch with maximum intensity. Think tonnes of ripe, dark berries, mocha hints from plenty of oak maturation, and a dose of complexity with a smoky, leathery layer that’s very impressive. It’s crying out for a steak pairing, but this is one that needs to breathe for a couple of hours before enjoying.

Millefiori Appasimento Veneto

A yummy blend of Corvina and Merlot, this Veneto red can’t be argued with at £8.50. Cherries and plums dominate, and there’s a tingle of spice to play with too. They’re ripe, but good acidity comes through too. Full, velvety and well-rounded.

Vergelegen Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot

Great value Stellenbosch red now, with this ethically minded wine. Its maturity is noticeable, displaying great poise for under £10. It’s anchored with earthy, oaky notes that are almost meaty, and plush with dark fruits. There’s even a touch of liquorice on the finish. Really interesting and worth picking up.

Tesco Finest Primitivo Terre Di Chieti (Deal Ends – 10th April)

This lovely wine falls firmly under the Italian easy-drinking section. Grown up in the Abruzzo hills, the Primitivo grapes overlook the Adriatic, cooling them and retaining admirable freshness. It’s an inky pour, and straight away the punch of plum and tickle of spice come through, the latter of which lingers for an age given the money paid for it. Delicious and top-notch value.

Cupiolo Pinot Grigio Blush

The confectionary hint on the nose hints that this isn’t in the same style as Provence Rose, and it isn’t. Using Pinot Grigio grapes from Trentino’s high-altitude Alto Adige, it’s full of fruit. Think soft peach, zippy lime, and bitter orange. There’s plenty of crisp acidity too. Stunning with seafood.

Te Pa Signature Series Sauvignon Blanc

This is everything you want from Marlborough Sauvignon. Vegetal green notes play off against chalky minerality for a super clean feel, but there’s signature gooseberry too, as well as a generous tropical helping – passion fruit and guava mainly. Perfect for vegetarian dinners.

It’s a Mucho Mas Fiesta this month at Tesco. This is one of the absolute best white wines of any style under £10. Bellingham The Bernard Series Chenin Blanc

Deinhard Green Label Riesling

Sweet fruits a-plenty with this Spanish red, think juicy plums, rich raisins and a hefty helping of French and American oak bringing lovely vanilla and a touch of smoke. It’s a full-bodied number in a similar mould to Primitivo and perfect for those who go in for jammy reds.

This is Masso Antico’s most loved wine, made from Apulian Primitivo, or Zinfandel to you and us. Cool sea air and Mediterranean heat combine with oak ageing for fresh berries, soft tannins, and lingering spice.

Jacob's Creek Double Barrel Matured Shiraz Red Wine

This is a really interesting Shiraz aged in Scotch whisky barrels. You’ll find it across the supermarkets, but with ASDA offering it for £10 it’s a no brainer. It’s aged in traditional oak first, before the Scotch finish creating a combination of richness, elegance, and easy-drinking smoothness. Expect plenty of vanilla oak, blackberry, plum and earthy tobacco.

19 Crimes are a reliable go-to at this pricepoint, with each bottle being a ode to those transported to Australia many years ago. This Shiraz-dominant blend is aged in American oak so vanilla and cedar spice support jammy blackcurrant and plum. It’s got an almost Christmassy feel to it we think, with a good whack of sweetness so if like that, you’ll love this.

Apothic Merlot

Untamed blueberries and dark cherries absolutely soar in this silky smooth Cali Merlot. Buttery, oaky, vanilla fill out the palate indulgently making this the sweetest, jammiest of any Apothic wine. It won’t be for everyone, but for big rich sweetness, it’s delish.

Luis Felipe Edwards Malbec

Fans of Chilean Malbec, look no further. There’s oak too, but it’s not as intrusive as Argentinian blends. It’s very nicely poised overall, with a more expensive feel than it actually is… which is always nice.

Bouchard Grand Conseiller Chardonnay

They’re flanked by spicy acidity and crunchy green fruits, before a return to citrus with lime zest lingering on the finish.

We always keep our eyes peeled for this wine to come on sale, though truth be told we’d buy it at full price too. As beautiful as its Day of the Dead design, this San Juan Malbec is a real smooth operator. The grapes that go into this wine are from vineyards once abandoned but now thriving. Picked late, they deliver so many luscious ripe notes with intoxicating intensity to them. Think silky black fruits and woody spice. More generous than expected.

Barossa Ink Shiraz

This is a fantastic supermarket pickup. It makes great use of grapes from across the whole Barossa area to get the most intense and sophisticated flavours. Oak ageing delivers mocha notes and brooding, rich blackberries and plums. One thing we’ve noticed with this is that giving it an hour to breathe really lets it sing that extra note. Serve with steak or hearty meats and enjoy.

Roodeberg Black

Morrisons had this South African red on offer a while ago, and we’re glad to see it back under a tenna… even though it’s worth more. It’s a red blend starring mostly Pinotage, a grape that’s undergone a great revival in South Africa. Packed with dark fruits, there’s also a slight char to the oak that works a treat. Rich with good structure, this is an easy-drinking gem perfect for meat dishes.

Lindemans Gentlemans Collection Cabernet Sauvignon

Henry J Lindeman moved from England to the Hunter Valley in Australia in 1843, when he opened his own winery to bring refined wines to the colony. Purple hues amongst a bright red colour and violet aromas welcome you in, before a black fruit flood. Chocolate and oak round things off nicely, and overall, this has the feel of a much more expensive Napa wine.

We’ve all had our eyes caught by this signature bottle, but if you haven’t tried it then know that the contents actually represent cracking value. A relatively new kid on the block, everything you need to know about this is on the label. Well, that’s not true actually because often the description doesn’t manifest, but here it most definitely does. It begins with a temptation of oaky vanilla and a green rush of pear and apple. Then, the bold, distinctly buttery flavour hits, transporting this Aussie Chard to something closer to Cali styles. Creamy, indulgent and made to pair with delicious, greasy food.

Squealing Pig Sauvignon Blanc

If you’re after superb Sauvignon in the classic Marlborough style, then this bottle is perfect – simplicity and excellence. Under £6 for this? Yes please. Spätlese means this Riesling is a late harvest resulting in increased residual sweetness. Perfect Canned Wines for Your DIY Advent Calendar

It’s been a joy to witness the journey that canned wine has gone on, from the early days where pretty much anything you picked up was disappointing, to now, with diverse varietals, solid as a rock stalwart wines, and even English producers.

They’re also some of the most gorgeous designs in all the drinks world, and being between 187ml-250ml, they’re a joy to open each day on the build up to Christmas. Why should kids have all the fun?

Most Wanted Pinot Grigio Fizz

Most Wanted usually back up their name, and for around £2, a can of this bubbly Pinot goes down easy. It has a fairy neutral expression, with pleasant crispness and semi-aerated fizz. Don’t get us wrong, it isn’t going to blow your mind with its elegance or depth, but as a decent sipper or palate cleanser, it does the job.

Gone are the days of simple reds and whites being the only canned wine options because there are now brands like Canned Wine Co. focusing on single varietal and carefully sourced wines shooting for quality and hitting the mark. Nice Pale Rosé

Nice have become a shelf stalwart since launching in 2019, building a reputation as one of the most reliable canned wine brands going. Malbec and Sauvignon Blanc are also offered, but it’s their Rosé where their light, natural fruits really shine. Ripe peach and sweet strawberries linger behind that rose petal colouring for a real Cote d’Azur drinking experience – and top notch value too.

Djuce Bibich's Rosé

This Syrah Rosé catches the eye from the off and continues to raise eyebrows. It’s fully organic, from Croatia and if you go into it with an open mind and don’t expect Provence style Rosé, you’ll be in for a treat. It’s a real red berry explosion, with fine spritz bubbles, unusual woody spice, and plenty of rose petal and delicate orange peel. A little pricey but it would be a welcome change in a boozy advent calendar.

Canvino Bianco

Another charming design and within is one of the best sparkling whites you can pick up in the supermarket. Like all of Canvino’s output, it’s from Lombardy and the Bianco is in the mould of a Prosecco, a blend of Chardonnay and Trebbiano grapes producing real zing and simplicity over a gentle fizz.

Kiss of Wine are all about celebrating smaller, independent winemakers and packaging their wines in simple, charming ways.
